M and L got a nice promotion, which meant relocating to the Bay Area. I met them at an open house when I was selling a neighboring cottage. When I asked them which charity they would like me to support, they chose Food Lifeline because it’s an organization helping to combat hunger and promote equity in Seattle.

The organization provides over 160,000 meals daily through a network of 300+ partner agencies, responding to a rapidly growing need as food insecurity rises. But Food Lifeline doesn’t just offer immediate relief—they also work to end hunger at its roots by addressing systemic issues like poverty, racial inequity, and unjust policies. Their community-centered approach includes innovative programs like the South Seattle Community Food Hub, which connects local farmers with hunger-relief organizations to ensure access to fresh, healthy food. They also lead by example, raising their minimum wage to $25 an hour to reflect their values of fairness and dignity.
