Showcasing A and Q’s Choice – UDistrict Food Bank
A and Q loved their neighborhood, but they had outgrown their starter home. They knew they wanted to stay in the neighborhood, go to the same day-care, shop at the same stores, and ride on the same bike routes so our search area was small. When you have a very defined search area, you have to have patience. Not only does the right house have to become available, but you have to be ready to pounce and act quickly. A & Q met with me last year to make a plan. We worked with a lender that got them qualified to buy before they sold. Then we made a list of the projects they needed to complete to get their house ready to sell. We patiently looked for months. We made offers on several homes that didn’t pan out. And when the right home popped up, we quickly crafted a winning offer. We were able to list their home about a week after they moved out since they had already done all the projects. Their home sold quickly and they immediately paid down a big chunk of the mortgage and recast their loan (ask me about this strategy). They are now in their forever house just a few block away!
When I asked them which charity they would like me to support, they chose the UDistrict Food Bank. They chose them because “no one in our community should be hungry, and the food bank not only provides meals but also helps people get back on their feet through job training and social supports. It’s a direct way to care for our neighbors and strengthen Seattle.”
The University District Food Bank (UDistrict Food Bank) is more than just a place to get groceries — it’s a vital, compassionate lifeline for thousands of families, students, seniors, and individuals in Northeast Seattle. With deep roots in the community, they meet people where they are, offering not just food, but dignity, connection, and care. Each week, they provide groceries to over 2,200 families, deliver food to more than 450 homebound clients, and ensure nearly 1,000 schoolchildren have enough to eat over the weekend. They offer fresh produce, ready-to-eat meals, and culturally relevant options to ensure everyone feels seen and supported. Beyond food, they empower neighbors through community gardening, social service connections, and partnerships with housing and job-training initiatives. Through innovative programs and heartfelt service, the UDistrict Food Bank reminds people that they’re not alone — that help, respect, and hope are always on the table. if you would like to get involved with the UDistrict Food Bank visit: https://www.udistrictfoodbank.org/
When you buy or sell with me, you can support your favorite school, social justice organization, food bank, un-housed neighbor program, veteran group, or anything else you care about. How great is that? What will you choose?
