Showcasing Lindsey and Jay’s Choice: World Central Kitchen

I met Lindsay and Jay while mountain biking with friends. They had been thinking about buying a house for a while. They were getting tired of working-from-home amidst mountain bikes hanging in their office, and ski gear tucked in every closet. They were ready to have a nice garage for their gear and space to work and play. They wanted to be close to their favorite activities on the trails and friends on the eastside. We found a fabulous newer home in Ten Trails in Black Diamond. It’s got a great garage and is moments from trails AND a pretty great bakery.

When I asked them which charity they would like me to support, they chose World Central Kitchen. Lindsey and Jay admired how World Central Kitchen was always on the frontlines of disaster areas making sure that those who were impacted can get a hot meal when they needed it most. They also liked how they partnered with local restaurants to produce the meals, so those small businesses are also supported in a time of need.

Founded by chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen is a nonprofit that provides fresh, comforting meals to people impacted by disasters and crises around the world. They respond quickly, partnering with local chefs and communities to prepare food that feels familiar and culturally meaningful, and to ensure it reaches those who need it most. By sourcing ingredients locally whenever possible, they not only nourish people during difficult times but also help support and strengthen the surrounding community.
