Showcasing Sophia’s Choice – Real Rent Duwamish

I helped Sophia and her Mom, Geri find a first home for Sophia in West Seattle. It’s a perfect place for her and her dog with easy access to shopping, restaurants and her work. When I asked her what charity she would like to support, she chose Real Rent Duwamish because she said, “It was a fitting choice, as I am now permanently living on their land”. The Duwamish have lived in the area known as Seattle since time immemorial. In 1855 when the “white man” made a treaty with the Duwasmish, the tribe of Chief Sealth/Seattle, they did not honor the treaty, nor did they take honorable care of the land and waterways. Real Rent Duwamish is one way to honor, support and learn about how we can be better stewards of the land we are living on.
